The woman responsible for creating Netflix’s original television content strategy is to leave is to leave the company.
Cindy Holland has been at Netflix for 20 years and had commissioned shows including The Crown and Stranger Things.
Bela Bajaria will now take charge of Netflix’s TV content, overseeing all Netflix original series around the world. She was previously responsible for unscripted programming and international content.
In a memo issued to staff the Netflix simply said there was no longer a role for Ms Holland.
“Since becoming co-CEO, I’ve wanted to simplify the way our content teams operate—with one global film team led by Scott Stuber and one for TV, which will now be led by Bela Bajaria,” said joint CEO Ted Sarandos in the statement received by staff on Tuesday. “These kinds of changes are never easy, and I am enormously grateful to Cindy Holland for everything she has done over the last 18 years at Netflix”.
Bajaria joined Netflix in 2016 from Universal Television.
