Comcast has shelved its NBC Sky World News project after the costs of Covid-19 made it unviable.
The Financial Times reported the London-based channel would not now go ahead because the business model had been torn apart by the pandemic. It was the first attempt to bring together the news operations of NBC and Sky.
News is rarely something that broadcasters do for commercial gain.
The project was paused in April, though did merit a mention as part of the launch plans for the Peacock streaming service.
A consultation with staff is now underway – 50 new employees have already been hired for the service – and staff will be able to suggest alternatives.
Comcast has not commented on the report.
