Following months of intense negotiations, Fox Sports and Ziggo have extended their carriage deal.
The live sports channels will remain available to Ziggo’s customers. In addition, Fox Sports 1 will be made available at no additional charge to all customers with at least a Ziggo TV Start or TV Standard subscription until the end of 2020.
No details of the agreement were made public. But the stand-off between VodafoneZiggo and the Fox Sports channels is a case apart – the broadcaster demands payment for all its customers, whether they subscribe to the premium channels or not, which was not acceptable to the cabler. About a month ago, negotiations reached a deadlock with no deal in sight. But – as is the case with most carriage disputes – a last-minute deal was reached.
“With this we want to meet the clubs and fans and thus ensure that as many people as possible can enjoy the Dutch competitions when they start”, says Marcel de Groot, director consumer market of VodafoneZiggo.
“Together with the clubs, let as many people as possible experience Dutch football, with all the clubs and their heroes. That has been the mission of FOX Sports from the beginning in 2008 and it still is today”, says director Frank Rutten of Fox Sports.
