The United States District Court Southern District of New York has ruled in favour of Russian channels who claimed their rights to broadcast in the US were violated.
The case, referred to as ‘Joint Stock Co v Infomir LLC’ dates back to February 19, 2016, when a complaint was filed by the plaintiffs, listed as Channel One Russia Worldwide, CTC Network, TV Darial, New Channel, Rain TV Channel and Global TV Entertainment. The defendants were meanwhile Panorama Alliance and Asaf Yevdayev.
In the judgment, Panorama and Yevdayev have been ordered to pay the plaintiffs $12,753,607.50. Panorama has also been ordered to pay them an additional $61,475.97.
Broadband TV News understands that this is just one part of wider legal action being taken by Russian broadcasters, who claim their services have been rebroadcast illegally in the US.
