The Formula 1 races will be exclusively shown on pay-TV in Germany from the next season: Sky Deutschland has acquired the exclusive broadcast rights in a long-term agreement.
Financial details were not disclosed. Sky Deutschland will broadcast all races live, from the first free practice session to the race on Sunday. In addition, all races and most qualifying sessions will be shown in Ultra HD resolution.
With Sky Sport F1, Sky Deutschland will also launch a linear Formula 1 channel with motorsports coverage 24 hours per day.
Four selected races per season will be broadcast on free-TV. Sky Sport News HD will also provide a 30-minute summary of the highlights after each race on free-TV.
Sky Deutschland’s move follows the decision by German broadcaster RTL to terminate its free-TV coverage of the Formula 1 races after 30 years for cost reasons.
