The Russian operator MegaFon has launched its own Multi-CDN solution in order to accelerate the delivery of online video and TV services.
In a statement, it says that over the past few weeks the consumption of such services, delivered by MegaFon TV, has grown by 30%.
The greatest growth was seen in content for young viewers, with the number of views of cartoons and movies for children and adolescents increasing by 40%.
It adds that in addition to its existing content delivery system employing 17 data centres it has started to use the Multi-CDN data catching platform, with a total bandwidth of 400 Gbps. This will allow subscribers to receive video content from servers located in the immediate vicinity of their region.
The most noticeable of these improvements will be for users in Siberia and the Far East of Russia.
MegaFon notes that Multi-CDN significantly improves the quality of service and reduces delays in video playback, especially when broadcasting TV channels in HD format during busy hours. The system caches more than 200 TV channels in real time and simultaneously stores over 250 TB of the most popular video content.
According to Andrey Kushnarev, CEO of MegaLabs, “In the conditions when many subscribers are forced to stay and work at home, we continue to improve the quality and speed of watching TV channels and films from our extensive media library. The total throughput of the system is 400 Gbps, which will allow viewing a large number of users even with increased load on the network”.
