Polsat secures key football rights

April 7, 2020 11.04 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The Polish national commercial broadcaster Telewizja Polska has renewed an agreement with the country’s football association PZPN.

As a result, it has secured the rights to the Totolotek Polish Cup and Fortuna 1 (second tier) football league for the seasons 2021/22, 2022/23 and 2023/24.

Commenting on the development, Zbigniew Boniek, the president of PZPN, said: “You meet real friends in difficult, demanding times. Telewizja Polsat once again showed that you can count on it even in hard to imagine circumstances. We are not playing today, we are waiting for control of the situation, but it is known that in the end normal life will win and the ball will also win. Polsat not only raised the television rank of Totolotek Polish Cup and the Fortuna 1 League championship to a very high level, it also showed that it is a very responsible and stable partner of the PZPN.”

Marian Kmita, Polsat’s sports director, added: “For over 20 years, Telewizja Polsat has supported Polish sport, especially Polish football, broadcasting hundreds of matches from Polish women’s and men’s, senior, youth and junior matches. Hundreds of times we have also shown, on Polsat’s sports channels, matches of Ekstraklasa football, the First League and the Polish Cup. They were different matches. And such as the legendary victory of Adam Nawa?ka’s team over Germany in 2014, but also those that only today … their participants remember. Regardless of the rank of the event, however, every broadcast has always been taken seriously and professionally by us. Maybe this is the secret of Polsat’s great relations with the PZPN and other institutions of the Polish football community. That is why, in the jubilee year, the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Polsat Sport, we are particularly pleased that we will have the honour to continue our cooperation in the Totolotek competition of the Polish Cup and the championship of Fortuna 1st League until 2024. We also believe that difficult times will pass quickly and Polsat , a proven friend of Polish sport, will continue to effectively support Polish football in other fields of cooperation”.
