The organiser of DVB World says it has cancelled next week’s event after an increasing number of cases of COVID-19 were reported in the host city Valencia.
In a statement, the DVB Project office said there would be a refund of registration, sponsorship and exhibition fees.
In addition to the spread of Coronavirus on the ground in Spain, a number of speakers had withdrawn from the programme due to corporate travel restrictions, leading to concerns by the organisers over maintaining the quality of the programme.
The EBU, which employs the staff of the DVB Project Office who are the lead organizers of the event, has implemented a travel ban on all staff until Friday this week; it seems likely that this period will be further extended.
Planning will begin later on DVB 2021 that will be held in Berlin.
Separately, the organisers of MIP TV in Cannes say they “monitoring the situation continuously”. France itself has imposed a ban on all events attracting 5,000 or more indoors.
