Russian pay-TV operators gained an additional 645,000 subscribers in 2019, or half the number a year earlier.
According to data published by TelecomDaily, the fourth quarter was the most productive with 275,000 net additions, but there are no prospects for similar growth in 2020.
Indeed, the number of pay-TV is projected to increase by only around 400,000.
As of the end of last year the total number of pay-TV households stood at 44,300,000, with penetration at 80% and ARPU unchanged at R190 (€2.72).
All told, the market was worth R100 billion. Tricolor was the leading provider with 12,230,000 subscribers at the end of Q4, unchanged on three months earlier.
It was followed by Rostelecom with 10,380,000 (10,250,000), MTS 3,860,000 (3,769,000), ER-Telecom 3,740,000 (3,740,000) and Orion 3,131,000 (3,112,400).
