RTL to launch new German TV channel VOXup

September 25, 2019 21.17 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

German broadcaster Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland will launch the new free-to-air TV channel VOXup on December 1, 2019.

The VOX spin-off will show popular programmes from the parent channel such as Shopping Queen, US series like Ally McBeal, free-to-air TV premieres and original productions.

VOXup will offer a special feature for advertising customers: For the first time in the German TV market, the commercial blocks of a linear channel will be coupled with another linear channel. VOX and VOXup will thus show the same commercials at the same time.

The channel is currently in the process of obtaining a broadcast licence. It will be headed by Oliver Schablitzki who is already responsible for Nitro and RTLplus.

VOXup will be distributed via the Astra satellite system (19.2° East) – initially only in SD resolution, as a spokeswoman from Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland told Broadband TV News. Carriage on cable networks and IPTV platforms will follow.

After RTL, VOX, n-tv, Nitro, RTLplus, Super RTL, Toggo plus and RTL II, VOXup will be the ninth free-to-air TV channel operated by Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland.
