WDR, the affiliate of German public broadcaster ARD serving federal state North-Rhine Westphalia, will take over the directorship of ARD at the beginning of 2020.
This was decided at ARD’s general meeting in Stuttgart on recommendation of the directors. WDR director Tom Buhrow (pictured right) will thus become the next ARD chairman on January 1, 2020.
Buhrow succeeds the current ARD chairman Ulrich Wilhelm (pictured left), director of Bavarian ARD affiliate BR, who will become deputy-director from 2020. WDR last headed ARD in 2011/2012.
