The market for content creation and rights acquisition in Russia was worth around R100 billion (€1.41 billion) in 2018.
Furthermore, reports Telesputnik, quoting figures in a joint study by PwC and Dentsu Aegis Network Russia, the total cost of content distribution amounted to R434 billion.
TV content production and acquisition was the most expensive at R49 billion, while TV distribution amounted to R292.4 billion, or 19.5% more than the previous year.
Both figures take into account TV channels’ ad revenues and subscription fees charged by cable operators.
Looking at the OTT sector, the amount spent on the creation and acquisition of content by platforms amounted to R10 billion in 2018.
Meanwhile, distribution revenues stood at R24 billion, or 71.2% more than a year earlier.
