This year’s IBC will again feature a number of companies that are either based in Central and Eastern Europe or have a strong involvement there.
While past form points to there being only a few announcements about them during the show, we have already seen a number in the run-up to it. On the eve, for instance, we learned that the Polish DTH platform Platforma Canal+, until earlier this month known as nc+, has chosen ADB for its new Ultra HD satellite receiver. Meanwhile, the Czech software company nangu.TV recently announced that it has developed content aggregation that offers users fast and convenient programme selection.
Elsewhere, Kaltura is becoming increasingly active in supplying its Cloud TV technology to Vodafone TV operations in Europe. One of the latest to receive it, and the first in Central and Eastern Europe, is in Romania.
In Poland, the incumbent Orange Polska has been able to launch a new NPVR service, alongside catch-up TV and start-over features on STBs and iOS and Android devices, working in partnership with Viaccess-Orca (VO) and Broadpeak.
At the same time, Telekom Slovenije is working with ruwido on a second generation of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) remotes that feature voice. Late last year the telco launched a new smart living and entertainment platform called Neo that uses a remote that is designed and manufactured by ruwido.
Finally, in Slovenia Beenius has announced that Brazil’s MultTV, a consortium of 13 ISPs, has opted for its Interactive TV Platform. By working with Verimatrix and AWS, it has given MultTV the opportunity to offer interoperability with value added services such as recommendations, targeted TV advertising and Android TV.
