Dailymotion has been ordered to pay Italy’s Mediaset €5.5 million for breaching copyright law.
Quoting the broadcaster, Market Screener reports that a court in Rome found that Dailymotion illegally hosted 995 copyright-protected videos on its site without any authorisation since 2206.
As a result, it must pay €5,000 for each day the videos are on the site, along with €100,000 in court expenses.
Significantly, this was the first of seven trials involving Dailymotion and the Mediaset believes it could be liable to pay compensation of nearly €200 million.
