Intersputnik has decided to support Nationsat, the world’s first small geostationary satellite platform.
Comnews reports that the question of its participation was approved last month at the joint 47th session of the council and 22nd session of the Intersputnik Operational Committee in Bonn.
Nationsat is being built in the US by Saturn Satellite Network, which was launched this year by Tom Choi, the co-founder of the Hong Kong satellite operator ABS.
ABS has worked closely with Intersputnik for many years and its first satellite ABS-1 was located at 75 degrees East, coordinated by Intersputnik.
The first Nationsat satellite will be launched by SpaceX in June 2020 and equipped with C and Ku-band transponders.
Its total cost, including launch price, launch insurance and the first year of operation, will not exceed $70 million.
