Eutelsat launched Fransat in 2009 as an alternative to view the channels of the national French digital terrestrial network, which the French call TNT. The service is encrypted, but free to view for inhabitants of metropolitan France.
The Eutelsat-delievered package features 27 free-to-air channels replicating the DTT/TNT package, 24 regional channels from France 3 in HD, plus additional local and thematic channels, radio and connected TV services.
The bouquet not only offers the free TV channels, but viewers can also top up their viewing with pay TV channels. In order to promote the extended tier, Fransat will offer 30 subscription channels in an open window for all viewers from July 1 till July 7.
