Speaking at the DTG Summit in London, Jonathan Thompson said in a fast changing market, the UK remained well structured and well regulated. In response to Netflix, Thompson called for more ‘Proactive collaboration’ of the type seen in the BBC-ITV JV Britbox and arguably the shareholder structure of Digital UK and fellow DTG panellists YouView and Freesat.
YouView CEO Susie Buckridge said the key with dealing with the challengers was content discovery “the ability to cut through it and get to the content people are looking for”.
She added that to hold up a line against Netflix and Amazon was ultimately counter-productive. “There’s always going to be new entrants, it’s just how you respond to them.
