The number of FTTH lines in Spain exceeded 8.8 million in February, according to the latest data published by the regulator CNMC.
This was 1.9 million more than a year earlier, with nearly 175,000 lines being added in February alone.
At the same, the number of DSL lines fell by 1.3 million in the year to February 2019.
CNMC notes that as of February Movistar accounted for 45%, or 4 million, FTTH lines.
Looking at the fixed broadband sector as a whole, Movistar was the market leader (40.22%), followed by Orange (26.76%), Vodafone (21.6%) and Grupo Masmovil (7.15%), with other providers accounting for the remaining 4.26%.
Masmovil was the only one of the top four providers to gain connections (+38,400) in February, with Movistar (-10,000) noting the biggest loss.
