Bavarian media authority BLM and Amazon Instant Video Germany have settled their dispute over alleged surreptitious advertising in an episode of the series Pastewka.
Both sides agreed on a new cut of the episode Das Lied von Hals und Nase (“The Song about Throat and Nose”) from the eighth season. It replaces the original version with immediate effect and can be watched on-demand on Amazon Prime Video.
Although both BLM and Amazon uphold their legal position, they welcome the constructive clarification of the matter. The administrative courts no longer have to clarify whether the advertising was surreptitious or not.
In January 2019, BLM prohibited the respective episode of the Pastewka series available on Amazon Prime Video on charges of violating German advertising rules. Amazon took legal action against the decision at the Administrative Court in Munich, which now won’t have to deal with the case.
The new edited version of the episode is approved by the media authority. The brand presentations and mentions can be justified by the plot and dramaturgy, according to BLM.
