YuppTV acquires IPL cricket digital rights, BT for the UK

March 26, 2019 08.11 Europe/London By Robert Briel

YuppTV has acquired the IPL digital rights for Australia, Continental Europe, South East Asia, while BT Sport will show every game of the 2019 season starting from Saturday 23 March running to Sunday 5 May.

YuppTV has acquired the digital broadcasting rights for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 outside of India. With this development, cricket fans across the globe can catch all the action of Season 12 of the world’s biggest T20 tournament, right as it unfolds.

This is the first time that an OTT platform has acquired world-wide rights, outside India and the UK, where BT Sports will broadcast the competition.

BT offers viewers a new large screen app to live stream the bIPL in full HD 1080p without the need for a set-top box on Xbox, Samsung TVs and Apple TVs.

YuppTV is bringing the action to all of its existing and new users in Australia, Continental Europe, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and rest of world including South and Central America and Central and Southeast Asia.

Commenting on the announcement, YuppTV founder and CEO Uday Reddy said, “We are glad to acquire the digital broadcasting rights for the IPL 2019 and would be enabling on-the-go-access to all the action unfolding in the Season 12 of IPL. We are determined to provide our global audience with convenient and real-time access to their favorite sporting action, through a wide gamut of internet-enabled devices.”

Andy Haworth, managing director of strategy and content for BT Consumer, said: “The VIVO IPL is one of the most exciting cricket competitions in the world right now and offers something for all of our customers. With some of cricket’s biggest names lighting up the league every day, BT Sport will bring you all of the action and excitement.”
