Polish OTT leader goes international

February 6, 2019 10.19 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Poland’s leading OTT service player.pl has been made available to viewers in the UK.

According to its owners TVN and Discovery Polska, they can now receive the International package, which consists of the channel ITVN, ITVN Extra and TVN24. In due course, the package will also be made available to viewers in Europe and also the rest of the world.

TVN notes that up until now the channels TVN and Discovery Polska have only been available outside Poland through TV distributors. The International package is the first offer allowing for legal and direct access to the broadcaster’s portfolio outside Poland.

Commenting on the development, Tomasz Parfienowicz, director of commercial strategy and international distribution, said: “The Polonia (Polish diaspora) in Great Britain is composed of mainly young people who often watch online television on smartphones and tablets. We receive many requests and questions about the possibility of reaching our offer via the internet. Together with the player.pl website, we have prepared a tailored offer for them, which we will systematically develop”.

Maciej Gozdowski, MD of player.pl, added: “Player.pl, the most engaging OTT service in Poland, is finally available outside the country. This is an important achievement for us, giving us access to new audiences”.

Viewers in the UK will be able to receive the International package free of charge for the first 14 days, after which they will be charged a promotional price of PLN50 (€11.7) a month rather than the usual PLN65.

Reception will be through both Android and iOS devices.
