Sony is in talks to sell its two Italian digital terrestrial channels Pop (kids) and Cine Sony.
According to Il Sole 24 Ore, Sony is negotiating with the De Agostini group, who is looking to create a joint venture with Viacom to expand in the children’s TV market.
Viacom Advertising & Brand Solutions is already the advertising sales agency for the two Sony channels, so a JV would make sense.
In addition, Sony is also reported to hold talks with Fox Italy, whose new owners Disney would be interested in acquiring a terrestrial frequency for its kids programming, while a second DTT channel could be used for another Fox property, such as FX or Nat Geo.
Mediaset is also reported to be the third contender for the Sony properties.,
