Türk Telekom sees record TV growth

February 1, 2019 10.50 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Türk Telekom gained an additional 492,000 Home TV subscribers in 2018, ending the year with 1.7 million.

In its latest set of results, the company notes that this is the highest full year net addition in this segment.

Meanwhile, thanks to its strong performance in the last two years, Tivibu Home moved from the fourth leading player in Turkey’s pay-TV market in 2016 to the second in Q1 2018.

As of the end of last year, the number of pay-TV subscribers stood at over 3.6 million. This was 886,000 more than a year earlier and again the highest annual net addition.

Türk Telekom had consolidated revenues of TL20.4 billion (€3.42 billion) in 2018.

This was 12.6% higher than a year and was the highest annual growth since the company’s IPO. At the same time, its EBITDA was 30.7% higher at TL8.4 billion.

However, it also had a net loss of TL4.1 billion in 2018, which Türk Telekom put down to unfavourable foreign exchange conditions, with the Turkish Lira depreciating against the $ and € by 39% and 34% respectively.
