Ukraine’s National Council has overturned its previous decisions on the amount of local content shown on Paramount Comedy and the children’s channels Niki kids and Niki junior.
In a statement, it says that it initially found that less than 50% of content on the channels was Ukrainian. This made the channels liable for a fine for violating the law.
It adds: “it turned out that there was a technical error in the decision on the channel Paramount Comedy, which, according to a member of the National Council Sergei Kostinsky, allowed it “to detect a more serious mistake.” He said that the current legislation for the same violations (relative to the share of national product on the air) for broadcasters and radio stations provides for various sanctions”.
It concludes by saying that the penalty for non-compliance of the 50% national quota in the transmissions of TV and radio companies applies only to broadcasters. This will be taken into account when issuing licences in the future.
