German commercial TV broadcaster Sport1 launched its video and computer games channel eSports1 on January 24, 2019 at 20.00 CET.
The red button was pressed at the launch event in Munich by Olaf Schröder (pictured left), CEO of parent company Constantin Medien and CEO of Sport1, and Siegfried Schneider (pictured right), president of Bavarian media authority BLM, which issued the broadcast licence.
The pay-TV channel, which offers live broadcasts, highlights and reports, can be received on all platforms in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on the slot of Sport1 US, which will be closed down at the same time. The platforms include Vodafone Deutschland, Unitymedia, Deutsche Telekom, Unitymedia, 1&1, T-Mobile Austria, A1 Telekom Austria, UPC Switzerland and Zattoo.
The eSports venture, unveiled in August 2018, also includes an Android/iOS app for mobile devices, offering the channel as a live-stream for €5.99 per month.
