The Polish public broadcaster TVP has met a delegation from the EBU to discuss past and future cooperation between the two institutions.
According to TVP, the meeting was held at its headquarters in Warsaw and attended by Maciej Stanecki, a member of its board, Noel Curran, EBU’s DG, and
Vanessa O’Connor, EBU’s director of member relations and communications.
During the meeting, Jaroslaw Idzi, the deputy director of TVP Sport, said that 2018 had been an important year for news exchange offered by the EBU. Thanks to the EBU, TVP was able to secure rights to the football World Cup and Champions League, Olympic sports and sports licences at favourable rather than commercial rates.
Meanwhile, TVP Kultura discussed the broadcast of concerts and issues of launching a special platform for exchanging musical content within the EBU.
TVP also says that in the field of technology the intention was expressed that members of the EBU tightened their cooperation in providing information via the Union.
The EBU guest were also shown TVP programmes and the Poland IN website.
TVP adds that EBU and all member stations as public media should remember about the main mission of providing high quality programmes for viewers, regardless of the funding rules. To this end, Vanessa O’Connor said that public broadcasters should be supported using social media.
TVP concludes by saying that the parties expressed their willingness to continue cooperation and organise further meetings devoted to news, sports and technology exchange. In its strategy, the EBU places strong emphasis on greater integration of the organisation’s members, which in effect will bring tangible benefits to all public broadcasters in Europe.
