TVP/nc+ win key football rights

December 13, 2018 10.24 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Poland’s leading football league Ekstraklasa has signed a two year-agreement with Canal+ and the public broadcaster TVP.

Covering the seasons 2019/2020 and 2020/2021, it will see, thanks to what it calls an “innovative construction of media packages”, all 296 games per season carried on the DTH platform nc+ and TVP show 37 games FTA per season.

The value of the contracts with the two parties amounts to PLN250,000 (€58,168) per season, and as a result the media rights for Ekstraklasa are now the eighth most lucrative in Europe, having previously been the 11th.

Ekstraklasa notes that it still plans to sell the remaining media packages, including clips on TV and the internet, including mobile devices, for the two seasons.

It also says that it conducted the negotiations with Canal+ and TVP on its own, rather than with the assistance of the agency MP & Silva as in previous years.

The auction for the four seasons beginning 2021/2022 will take place only following the full clarification of the international calendar and the clubs’ agreement as to the structure of the league.
