Telecommunications manufacturer CommScope Holding Co Inc is holding talks with set-top maker Arris with a view to a possible takeover.
The story was first reported by Reuters, quoting people familiar with the matter.
Arris has previously been seen as a consolidator in a business that has come under pressure from the new wave of streaming services disrupting content providers and hardware manufacturers alike.
In February 2017 Arris, which had already acquired the former Motorola/Google set-top business, bought Rukus Wireless in an $800 million deal.
But this year announced it was selling its Taiwan manufacturing facility to long-time partner Pegatron Corporation.
Reuters’ sources said there was no certainty a deal would be reached.
Neither Arris or CommScope have made any comment.
