The BBC is using popular children’s characters to allow kids to interact with the latest smart speakers.
The BBC Kids Skill is launching with three games from CBeebies, Little Monster’s Hide and Seek, Andy’s Adventure Dance Party and Go Jetter’s Glitchy Facts, the BBC’s first interactive voice experiences for children.
To activate you ask the smart speaker to “open CBeebies” and then choose which game to play.
Mukul Devichand, Executive Editor, BBC Voice & AI, said: “Interacting with audio opens up a world of exciting opportunities to explore for the BBC’s content for children. Starting with CBeebies, we are going to release a number of pieces for children over the coming months, working closely with the much loved characters and stories.”
The BBC has set up a Voice & AI team, which is leading the corporation’s work in this exciting new space, with experimental Voice services for the 2018 World Cup, Wimbledon, Tour De France and Edinburgh Festival.
In addition to the BBC Kids Skill, the BBC recently launched a voice service making its full range of live radio stations and podcasts available.
The BBC also provides the primary news briefing on Amazon Echo, Google Home and Apple HomePod devices.
