Twitch to stream months-long Pokemon marathon

August 24, 2018 10.26 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Twitch will stream the first 932 episodes of the Pokemon anime series, as well as every movie. The livestream will begin August 27 on the Twitch Presents 2 channel and last into 2019.

This marks the single longest programmatic viewing event to stream on Twitch, which has been home to marathons of NBC’s Saturday Night Live, The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross, and Doctor Who among others. The marathon will start at 1pm ET on August 27 with episode one of the Indigo League season.

In addition to the usual co-watching experience provided by the Twitch chat, the stream will also have an overlay called the Pokémon Badge Collector. It lets viewers collect Pokemon. Each one gives a certain amount of points with more points earned for rarer Pokemon.

“To continue to support this beloved property, our upcoming Pokémon: The Series viewing event–which is in partnership with The Pokémon Company International–marks our most ambitious block of animated programming to date in terms of duration and content,” said Jane Weedon, Director of Business Development at Twitch.

“Making it even more special, an overlay created using our exclusive Extensions product will let viewers collect Pokémon when they appear on-screen for the ultimate interactive viewing experience.”

The marathon will be available in the US, Canada, Europe, Latin America, and Australia.

Starting August 27, eight hours of new episodes will be shown Monday – Thursday starting at 19.00 CET, with reruns on Friday and Saturday on /twitchpresents2. Movie night is every Sunday at 19.00 CET.

Watch the marathon in French (/twitchpresentsfr), German (/twitchpresentsde), Spanish (/twitchpresentses), Italian (/twitchpresentsit), and Brazilian Portuguese (/twitchpresentspt).
