Increased revenues and an overall growth in subscriber numbers for Canal+ have been tempered with further subscriber erosion in France.
Canal+ Group’s revenues stood at €1,298 million in the first quarter, up 2.1% compared to the first quarter of 2017.
A significant increase in the subscriber base saw numbers climb by 620,000 subscribers to 15.3 million.
The French domestic market suffered a loss of 188,000 direct subscribers. This includes a fall of 73,000 individual subscribers taking the subscription base within France to 8.011 million subscribers when all distribution methods are combined.
4.702 million subscribers hold a contract directly with Canal + compared to 4.751 million at end 2017. The figures do not include subscribers Canalplay, the online video service group are calculated on a different basis from those presented in previous quarters.
However, churn fell by 2.2 percentage points to 15%, suggesting Canal’s strategy is paying off.
