Turkey’s Dogan Holding has entered into talks with Demirören Holding, an unlisted company seen as supporting President Tayyip Erdogan, on the sale and transfer of its video and print media.

Quoting an official announcement to the Public Disclosure platform, Hürriyet Daily News, which is owned by Dogan, says: “We initiated the talks regarding the sale of all of our components which operate in print and visual media on an operating value of $1.1 billion and a share value of $890 million in case of a discount related to debts”.

It adds: “These components include Yaysat, the company performing distribution of media and non-media products, Dogan Gazetecilik [Posta, Fanatik], Dogan News Agency, Dogan TV Holding, DTV News and Visual Broadcasting, Doruk TV and Radio Broadcasting [CNN Türk], Hürriyet Gazetecilik ve Matbaacilik and Mozaik Communication Services [Dsmart]”.

Dogan also said that when there are developments regarding the sale, it will notify the public within the scope of the relevant legislation.

Prior to the above statement appearing in Hürriyet Daily News on Thursday, March 22, Daily Sabah reported that Demirören, which owns two newspapers – Milliyet and Vatan – previously acquired from Dogan in 2011, has a foreign partner for the acquisition.

It adds that Dogan Holding, which is owned by Aydin Dogan, encompasses operations in the energy, retails and manufacturing sectors has been present in Turkey’s media industry since 1979.

Demirören, on the other hand, was established by Erdogan Demirören and is active in the energy, manufacturing, tourism and real estate sectors.
