Russia’s MTS has begun the introduction of 4K services on all its TV platforms.
According to ComNews, the company expects the upcoming World Cup to act as a catalyst for the development of HD broadcasting technology and creation of high-quality TV content in 4K.
Interactive set-top boxes that support 4K will be made available to MTS subscribers from this April, on the eve of the World Cup. They will be supplied by China’s ZTE, with 60,000 earmarked for a pilot launch.
Initially, the company will target the devices at the B2B sector.
It has previously been reported that MTS also plans to launch four Ultra HD channels this year.
Its 4K offer will eventually be available cable, DTH and IPTV, on the basis of its GPON MH+GTS network.
