Poland’s Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) will make a ruling on Liberty Global’s proposed acquisition of Multimedia Polska in the first quarter of 2018.
Speaking in a press briefing and quoted by Wirtualne Media, Michal Holeksa, VP of the UOKiK and responsible for the protection of competition, said that talks are currently taking place between the Office and both UPC Polska, through which the proposed transaction will be undertaken, and Multimedia Polska.
The UOKiK has expressed its concerns about competition in 15 cities, while UPC Polska believes this to not be the case.
Holeksa said he thought progress was being made and that everything will be resolved and a decision made in Q1 2018.
As previously reported by Broadband TV News, the deal was first announced in October 2016.
Significantly, Holeksa also said that a decision on the proposed acquisition of a stake in Netia, Poland’s leading alternative telco, by Cyfrowy Polsat will take a much shorter time for the UOKiK to reach as it has already analysed the market.
