German teleshopping broadcaster QVC Deutschland has commenced offering its main channel in Ultra HD quality on Astra (19.2° East).
QVC UHD is broadcasting as an unencrypted free-to-air service on the frequency 11.288 GHz V (SR 22,000, FEC 2/3).
In October 2017, QVC Deutschland signed a 10-year contract with Astra Deutschland for the satellite transmission of the UHD channel. The satellite operator’s technical services subsidiary MX1 is handling the HEVC encoding of the UHD live signal and the uplink onto the Astra satellite.
At the same time, QVC and Astra renewed the capacity agreements for the distribution of the channel in SD and HD format on Astra for several years.
