Poland hails “real VOD revolution”

November 23, 2017 10.06 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

The Polish on demand service Player.pl has been significantly enhanced by the addition of Canal+ and HBO channels to its line-up.

At the same time, the new offer, known as Player+, has a larger collection of VOD titles, including some premium ones from nc+.

According to the national commercial broadcaster TVN, which operates Player.pl, Player+’s paid offer includes such live channels as Discovery, Disney, National Geographic, Eurosport, Eleven Sports and MTV. It adds that the channels from Canal+ and HBO are for the first time available in the market without the need to take out a subscription.

Player+ is available in five packages, with three additional options also on offer.

Commenting on Player+, Jim Samples, the president of TVN, said: “Our offer is a carefully selected offer, which in one place gathers all that is best. Thanks to the cooperation of leading players in the market, we have the opportunity to offer our users exceptional content that will complement Player’s catalogue”.

Manuel Rougeron, president and CEO of nc +, added: “By continuing our strategic partnership with TVN, we are launching a unique OTT offering today that will allow us to reach a new audience with specific requirements.

“Incorporating Canal + channels and the Canal + VOD library is a real revolution in the Polish TVand VOD market”.

Maciej Maciejowski, member of the management board of TVN, continued: “The audience has been waiting so long for this offer. Currently over 5 million real users are using Player (Gemius / PBI results for October 2017) – the Player + offer will definitely expand this group. Thanks to the strategic cooperation with the nc + platform, we have created the best legal VOD and TV service in Poland”.
