The Russian TV channel TNT will stop showing foreign movies from next week.
Speaking to Kommersant, Artur Dzhanibekyan, the head of the Gazprom Media Entertainment TV subsidiary, said that viewers and advertisers now prefer up-to-date and high quality local content, both on air and online.
TNT currently obtains two-thirds of its output from the proprietary companies Comedy Club Production and Good Story Media. The remainder is provided by Solaris Promo Production, which has ownership links with TNT.
Solaris buys Hollowood movies for TNT and other Gazprom Media channels.
Kommersant notes that such movies are not cheap, accounting for around CTC Media’s programme budget. As a result, the latter broadcaster jointly acquires them with Ren TV.
