Eutelsat is strengthening its presence in Ukraine and according to unconfirmed reports could soon launch its own DTH platform in the country.
Medianny and Parabola say it has already acquired a transmitter station in the village of Kolonshchinan in the Kiev region, with the service for the uplink of TV channels to Eutelsat satellites having been launched by Europort.
They add that besides uplinking channels Eutelsat plans to service satellite platforms. Furthermore, it aims to obtain a licence for a satellite platform from the regulator National Council.
Europort is Ukrainian owned and Yuri Petrushevsky, one of its joint owners, has said that it is Eutelsat’s exclusive partner in the country. However, he refused to comment about the possible launch of a DTH platform in Ukraine by Eutelsat.
Any new DTH platform in Ukraine would find itself in direct competition with Viasat and Xtra TV.
