Poland’s Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) has launched a consultation into the dominant market position enjoyed by EmiTel in the provision of wholesale TV and radio services.
Wirtualne Media points out that the national transmission company is currently responsible for the operation of five national and one of seven regional DTT multiplexes in the country.
In the UKE’s view, this puts other service providers at a disadvantage.
Those invited to contribute to the consultation, which lasts 30 days, include the Polish Chamber of Electronic Communications (PIKE), the country’s main cable association, other industry associations and EmiTel itself.
It is likely to result in a number of regulations being imposed on EmiTel, which is currently owned by Alinda Capital Partners.
