The Czech cable operator RIO Media has been acquired by Kaprain Industrial Holding from Argus Capital for an undisclosed fee.
Rozhlas.cz reports that following the closure of the deal, which has to be approved by the Office for Protection of Competition (UOHS), Kaprain will have an operation serving over 200,000 households, or roughly the same number as the incumbent’s O2TV.
Significantly, Kaprain became a major player in the Czech Republic’s pay-TV market following its acquisition of Nej.cz, the second largest cable operator, from BKS Cable (Malta) in October 2016.
Rio Media was established in 2008 and is currently the third leading provider of broadband and digital TV services in the country, with a presence over 30 towns and cities in North Bohemia, Klatovy, Olomouc and North Moravia.
