Culture secretary Karen Bradley says she understands the concerns of broadcasters, who could be forced to move their operations from the UK after Brexit.
The UK is home to dozens of channels from broadcasters including Disney and Discovery, all of which rely on the reciprocal arrangements put in place by Europe known as the country of origin. They base themselves in the UK, using local playout facilities, to reach a number of European territories with multiple feeds.
“We’re doing everything we can to make the case for the country of origin principle to feature high in the negotiations,” Ms Bradley told delegates at the RTS event in Cambridge on Thursday.
Earlier, Ofcom chief executive Sharon White says the most important item in her Brexit inbox is the principle of country of origin.
