Spacecom is demanding $10 million in compensation from Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) as part of the arbitration process for the late delivery of Amos 6.
The IAI manufacturered satellite was lost in a launchpad incident in September 2016 two days before it was due to take-off from Cape Canaveral from facilities operated by Elon Musk’s Space X.
A major client for satellite capacity was Facebook, which was looking to use Amos 6 to connect parts of Africa to the Internet.
According to Globes, on Monday Spacecom filed a $138 million claim against IAI, alledging that Spacecom suffered damage quantified at $138 million. IAI said that Amos 6 has been insured for $170 million and the sum had been transferred to Spacecom.
The arbitration has been ongoing for the past two months.
In addition to the $10 million in compensation, Spacecom is seeking a further $32 million in compensation from IAI.
