Over half of fixed-line internet subscribers in Moldova now subscribe to services with download speeds of at least 30Mbps.
Data produced by the regulator ANRCETI shows that as of the end of the first half 50.4% were offered speeds of 30-100Mbps, while 6.8% opted for over 100Mbps.
There were 569,100 fixed-line subscribers as of the end of June, or 2.1% more than six months earlier.
Fibre continued to grow in popularity, chiefly at the expense of xDSL. The number of FTTx subscribers at the end of June stood at 328,500, or 4.3% more than six months earlier. There were also 39,900 coaxial cable customers (+3.5%) and 2,300 (+2.1%) connected via other technologies, while the xDSL total stood at 198,400 (-1.5%).
All told, 57.3% of subscribers were connected via FTTx, 35.2% via xDSL, 7.1% via coaxial cable and 0.4% via other technologies. The fixed- line penetration was 16 per 100 inhabitants, or 0.4 percentage points more than six months earlier.
There were a total of 80 active broadband providers in Moldova as of the end of June. Their revenues in H1 amounted to over MDL602.6 million (€28 million ), or 11.3% more than in the same period last year.The largest growth was enjoyed by StarNet (+12.3%), Moldtelecom (+11.7%) and Sun Communications (+8.9%), while the other 77 saw their cumulative sales increase by 7.9% to over MDL56.2 million. ARPU amounted to MDL178.2, or 6.2% more than a year earlier.
Market shares were essentially unchanged on a year earlier, with Moldtelecom and StarNet claiming 64.3% and 21.3% respectively, Sun Communications 5.1% and the other 77 a cumulative 9.3%.
