Switzerland’s largest cable operator UPC has commenced offering all of its services to the residents of Lausanne via the local fibre optic network.
With the usage of the third-party infrastructure announced in June 2017, the Liberty Global subsidiary reaches around 90,000 new households.
“As a national operator, it is our responsibility to offer our services to the citizens of the fifth largest city in Switzerland and I am very pleased about the development of our activities in French-speaking Switzerland,” said Eric Tveter, CEO of UPC.
In regions where UPC cannot extend its network directly, the company expands its footprint through third-party networks like in Lausanne in order to connect up to 200,000 new households by the end of 2018.
At the same time, UPC is speeding up the expansion of its own fibre optic cable network. The network offers internet access with speeds of up to 500Mbps available everywhere and to all connected households. 50,000 additional households were connected to the UPC network in Switzerland and Austria in 2016.
