Sky is to enter the premium speaker market. It has formed a partnership with French company Devialet for a version of the Phantom Speaker.
As televisions have become thinner, the market for soundbars has grown, as seen by the success of companies such as Sonos and Bose.
Sky sees the Devialet product as the ideal companion to Sky Q and its 4K capability.
“Sound is a vital part of visual storytelling. That’s why we’ve partnered with audio industry leaders Devialet to launch Sky Soundbox and take the TV experience to the next level for our customers,” said Stephen van Rooyen, Sky CEO, UK & Ireland.
The Sky Soundbox is bespoke, all-in-one sound system that features a subwoofer and 5 satellite speakers. Its sound settings adapt automatically depending on the content being played on Sky Q, and its dynamic range adjusts in real-time.
“This partnership with Sky is a token of our ability to pursue Devialet’s vision to enable revolutionary experiences through audio, and bring them to the widest number of human beings through partnerships with like-minded companies looking to challenge the status-quo,” said Quentin Sannié, Devialet’s chief executive officer.
Sky is currently taking pre-orders for the product, which will be priced at £249 for its multiscreen customers, £299 for regular customers and £799 for non-subscribers.
