Hungary’s Magyar Telekom has completed the first new generation broadband network built with funds from the European Union.
Serving 400 households Gödre, located in the Hegyhát district of Baranya Country, it provides users with Telekom’s 1Gb NetMánia 1000 service.
Magyar Telekom and its consolidated subsidiaries were awarded HUF12.2 billion (€40 million) in EU funds last autumn to develop networks in 46 districts offering broadband access of at least 30Mbps.
By the end of next year, it plans to connect around 111,000 households in so called ‘white areas’, previously not served by operators, using these funds.
Magyar Telekom is also continuing to build networks with its own funding and added another 1 million households to its footprint, providing broadband access of 30Mbps or higher, in the years 2015/16.
