Oikonomou new VP Distribution at Euronews

July 19, 2017 10.41 Europe/London By Robert Briel

The Euronews Group has appointed Kostas Oikonomou as its VP Distribution and Partnerships.

Oikonomou will be responsible for the development of revenues from linear and non-linear distribution and partnership activities, and will lead the distribution strategy of Euronews (to be re-branded EuronewsNBC in the coming months) and Africanews.

He will be based at the Euronews London office from where he will lead the Distribution and Diversification teams based in Lyon, Paris, Brussels and Singapore and will report to Carolyn Gibson, Chief Revenue Officer.

Kostas joined Euronews in July from CNN, where he was Senior Commercial Director of Content Sales and Partnerships for EMEA where he created a range of new commercial products generating tremendous growth. Prior to CNN, he worked at Discovery, Al Jazeera Media Network, NBC News and AP.

“Since Euronews has transformed its model from a TV channel to a global media group offering a wide range of News services in 12 languages, the opportunities to increase distribution and partnership revenues have multiplied and are evolving quickly. Our partnership with NBC News provides further opportunity to build out new and innovative partnerships across multiple markets,” said Carolyn Gibson.

“Kostas brings a wealth of experience to this newly created role with his knowledge of the global news industry as well as with his instinctive aptitude for new business.”

“I am very excited to be part of the EuronewsNBC and Africanews team. I am eager to develop strong commercial products that will provide competitive advantage to our partners. It will be an exciting few months ahead,” said Oikonomou.
