Discovery Networks’ thematic channels will continue to be available on the European pay-TV platforms of M7 Group as the two parties have resolved their disagreement over carriage fees.
The new multi-year deal covers M7’s platforms in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Netherlands and Belgium.
For the German-langue countries, an agreement was made to distribute Eurosport 1 HD on M7 Deutschland and HD Austria, granting M7’s customers access to sports events like the French Open, the Tour de France and – from 2018 – the Olympic Games.
For Skylink subscribers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, TLC will be added, replacing Crime & Investigation.
The dispute between Discovery and M7 focused on the carriage payments demanded by the TV broadcaster which M7 considered to be “out of proportion, especially considering the average performance of these channels in their markets.”
Discovery was also involved in a carriage fee row with Sky that was settled in January this year.
