Under it, providers of pay-TV services will be required to provide details about their subscribers to Polish Post to assist in the collection of fees to fund public broadcasting in the country.
According to Jaroslaw Sellin, the deputy minister of culture, quoted by Wirtualne Media, those who fail to provide data on their customers so will now be breaking the law and have to face the consequences.
On the other hand, there will also be a small financial gain for them in providing the “basic” data.
However, the Ministry of Culture of National Heritage is also preparing a completely new law on receiver licence fees.
It is likely to be put forward to parliament within the next two to three weeks and to come into effect next year.
From next year, the TV licence fee will probably be collected as part of households’ tax bills and amount to PLN8 (€1.9) a month.
