Over 6 million homes in Spain now receive pay-TV services.
According to data published by the regulator CNMC, the figure reached 6.1 million in Q3 2016, up from 5.43 million 12 months earlier. XDSL/FTTH, at 3.340 million, accounted for over half of the total, with cable (1.486 million), satellite (953,000) and others (227,200) claiming the remainder.
Significantly, most (84.2%) – 5.06 million, or 190,000 more than the previous quarter – took their pay-TV service as part of a package. The most poular package was quintuple, which accounted for 4.5 million subscribers, or 190,000 more than three months earlier.
Pay-TV revenues in Q3 amounted to €458.4 million, compared to €359.3 million for FTA TV and €76.1 million for radio services. XDSL/FTTH revenues reached €247.6 million, up 55.8% on the previous year, while DTH revenues were, at €140.6 million, 23.3% lower than in Q3 2015.
In the FTA TV sector, the two main groups (Mediaset and Atresmedia) accounted for 87.8% of TV ad revenue.
